Serbia, ICTY cooperate without impediments

The National Council for Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) concluded at its session today that cooperation with the Tribunal’s Prosecution and the defence lawyers of the indictees is running smoothly.

Serbia has responded to all 1886 requests from the Prosecution related to the submission of required documentation, access to state archives, relieving witnesses from the obligation of keeping state secrets and other technical aspects. Out of the total 959 requests for assistance by the defence lawyers, Serbia has met almost all of them, while the remaining few are in the process of realisation.

The good results are the fruit of mutual trust established in the previous period between the National Council, the ICTY Prosecution and the defence lawyers.

It is necessary to maintain the existing level of cooperation, which is why the National Council will take all necessary steps to ensure this.

Serbia’s cooperation with the ICTY is of extreme importance, not only because it is a precondition for the continuation of Serbia’s European integration process, but also because it contributes to establishing the truth about war crimes committed in the territory of former Yugoslavia and punishing the war criminals, reads a statement by the National Council for Cooperation with the ICTY.
