Vulnerable population must be protected in time of crisis

Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic met with an IMF delegation today and briefed them on a planned package of intervention measures the Ministry has drawn up to assist the most vulnerable citizens and underdeveloped municipalities.
The Ministry says in a statement that during the meeting with the IMF delegation, led by IMF head of mission in Serbia Albert Jaeger, Ljajic said that before the end of the year, around RSD 880 million will have been secured for this package.
Jaeger commended the package of measures, adding that in a time of crisis, the Serbian government’s priority must be caring for the poorest and the neediest.
Ljajic and Jaeger also discussed new measures to be introduced by the new law on social protection, which is to be adopted by the end of the year. They agreed that only systemic and long-term solutions can lead to full social protection for the most socially vulnerable groups of the population in Serbia.
At today’s meeting they also discussed the possibility of adopting a law on fiscal responsibility and a law on salaries in public services, the statement adds.
