Efficient response by flight control agency

The Ministry of Infrastructure’s sub-committee for air traffic safety stated today that the safety committee of the Flight Control Agency for Serbia and Montenegro responded efficiently to the situation caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure, a report from a teleconference of representatives of aviation agencies and the heads of flight control agencies from all over Europe called by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, was examined at a meeting today.

The sub-committee for air traffic safety accepted a proposal of the Organisation, under which central air traffic control management in Brussels, in cooperation with relevant international institutions and national flight control agencies will define no-fly zones in European air space.

The duration of no-fly will depend on the forecast and movement of volcanic dust clouds in European air space, the statement said, adding that the proposed measures will be implemented from 8.00 on 20 April and coordinated at European level.

The session was attended by State Secretary of the Ministry and the committee chairman for the safety of air traffic Miodrag Miljkovic, Director of the Directorate of Civil Aviation Nebojsa Starcevic, Chairman of the Agency for Flight Control of Serbia and Montenegro Nikola Stankov, General Director of Jat Tehnika Srdjan Miskovic, and representatives of Nikola Tesla Airport and Jat Airways.
