Dacic attended the Helicopter Unit Day at Nikola Tesla Airport, after which he said that unit’s members, with modern regulations and procedures, fully contribute to the goal of achieving the security of the state and the Western Balkans.
He said that the Ministry wants to create strong, modern, professional, technically equipped and trained police personnel ready to protect every citizen from any form of threat.
The police can only contribute to Serbia's road towards the European Union, taking into account a number of reform processes that are carried out within the Ministry and the police, he said.
The Minister recalled that the government and the Ministry’s priority goals are the fight against organised crime and corruption, the preservation of security and speedy EU integration process.
Dacic said that the Ministry of the Interior is fully committed to these goals, adding that the Serbian police are undergoing a period of intensive changes in order to introduce reforms in their key sectors and implement European standards.
Members of the helicopter unit, founded in 1967, are tasked with combating all forms of crime and helping the population in emergency situations and natural disasters.
The current unit was formed in 2002 and its base with 13 helicopters is located at Nikola Tesla airport.
