Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic, as part of promotional campaign for registration onto special electoral rolls of the national councils, will visit the National Council of Bunjevci, Croats and Hungarians in Subotica on February 3 and 4, the National Council of Germans, Slovaks, Romanians and Ukrainians in Novi Sad on February 5 and 8 and the National Council of Ruthenians in Ruski Krstur on February 9.
The new Law on national councils of national minorities came into force in September 2009 and the elections will be held in early June 2010.
Registration onto electoral rolls of national minorities will last until March 9 and is being organised in every municipality.
The elections are organised for 800,000 citizens of Serbia who declare themselves as national minorities.
In addition to the existing 16 national councils, the communities of Albanians, Askhali, Czechs and Slovenians have used the provisions of the new law which give them the right to make national councils and take part in the elections.
