Vaccination most efficient prevention from virus A (H1N1)

The Health Council announced today that it supports the previous work of the Health Ministry’s working group for monitoring and controlling the influenza A (H1N1) and believes that all previous decisions of that body were timely and professionally justified.

The Council held a meeting on January 21 to discuss issues related to the current pandemic caused by influenza A (H1N1).

The Council concluded that at this moment it is very difficult to give a clear prediction of further spread of H1N1 viral infection, or to predict its further medical and economic implications.

It is a new virus, unknown to our immune system with the possibility of further mutations and the distribution of genetic material with other influenza A viruses, of human or animal origin.

Widely used active immunisation (vaccination) is the most effective, simplest, safest and most economical measure in combating the spread of infection and illness.

All physicians, especially primary care physicians are obliged to actively participate in educating the population, providing professional and understandable explanations related to the current pandemic and vaccination is the safest and most effective measure in preventing the spread of H1N1.

The Council also pointed out to the necessity of a faster professional, technological and human resources development of the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums Torlak as a crucial factor in effective diagnosis and prevention of influenza A virus infection.

All relevant structures and bodies in the health system of Serbia are obliged to regularly monitor and analyse the current pandemics, pass timely measures, and provide comprehensive, objective and critical analysis with concrete proposals and measures applicable to similar situations in the near or distant future.
