Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Sasa Dragin opened today the Directorate for national reference laboratories in Zemun polje, by which one of the most important technical requirements of the EU in the field of agriculture has been fulfilled.

This step will speed up the integration of Serbian agriculture into the EU's common agricultural policy.
The Ministry's strategic goal is improvement of conditions for the life and work of farmers in Serbia and providing healthy and quality food for consumers.
The Directorate for national reference laboratories was established in line with the Law on food safety.
The Directorate's field of work will be food safety, animal health , plants, seeds for agricultural and horticultural plants, residues, milk and a plant gene bank.
The aim is to reach higher standards in order to create conditions for using EU funds from its common agricultural policy, after Serbia becomes a full EU member.
Serbia received over €4 million from the European Commission for the establishment of the Directorate.
