Days of Serbian Culture in Timisoara

Minister for the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic and the Serbian President’s advisor Mladjan Djordjevic last night officially closed the Days of Serbian Culture, opened in Timisoara on November 6.
The Ministry states that the event was held under the auspices of Serbian President Boris Tadic and Romanian President Traian Basescu.
Sreckovic announced at the closing ceremony that a council of Serbs in the region will be formed as one of the key institutions of the recently adopted Law on the Diaspora and Serbs in the region, adding that this organisation will provide support to Serbs living in the region in terms of helping them to exercise their rights.
Our strategic goal is to become the economic and political leader in the Western Balkans, which implies that we must also lead the way in developing good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation. Therefore I am certain that this council will help to speed up the EU integration process for the entire region, Sreckovic said.
The Minister noted that the need to express one’s national identity and multiculturalism should not last for only seven days, but should be a way of life for the Serbian community in Timisoara.
Djordjevic stressed that the setting up of the council is very important, as this body will play a key role in cooperation, protection of interests and improvement of relations between Serbs and their fellow citizens in the region.
The Serbian President will head the council to show how much we care about this issue, Djordjevic concluded.
