Special anti-terrorist unit celebrates its Patron Saint’s Day

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic attended today the celebration of the Patron Saint’s Day of the Ministry of Interior’s Special Anti-terrorist Unit (SAJ), Saint Archangel Michael.

Speaking at the celebration, held at SAJ headquarters in Batajnica, Dacic said that when there are no terrorist attacks, this anti-terrorist unit takes part in the apprehension of members of the most dangerous organised criminal groups.
Serbia is resolved to become a peaceful country in which the chains of illegal trade in drugs, weapons and people will be cut, and corruption and the operation of organised criminal groups prevented. Dacic said that the patron saint’s day is an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives in various operations throughout Serbia, recalling that as many as 1,000 police members lost their lives over the past 20 years.
The Patron Saint’s Day was consecrated by Bishop of Backa Irinej and Bishops Gligorije and Longin in the presence of Dacic, Police Head Milorad Veljovic, SAJ commander Spasoje Vulevic, head of the Sector for extraordinary situations Predrag Maric and many members of SAJ.
