Serbian, Libyan joint cooperation committee to hold session

The Serbian Ministry of Infrastructure stated today that the 14th session of the Serbian-Libyan joint economic, scientific and technological cooperation committee will be held from November 10 to 12 in Belgrade.

According to the statement this is the joint committee’s first session after a period of 11 years which makes it particularly significant. The co-chairs of the joint committee are Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic and Secretary of Libya’s General People's Committee for Health and Environment Mohammed Mahmoud al-Hijazi.

Representatives of Serbian companies already present or planning to do business in Libya will also participate in the work of the joint committee.

The purpose of the upcoming session of the joint committee is to review prior agreements and their implementation, to make a detailed analysis of bilateral economic relations, to identify possible areas of cooperation and to suggest ways to step up cooperation.

It is expected that the two sides will present suggestions for starting a process for resolving past debt issues.

A double tax avoidance agreement will be signed at the session. Another agreement concerning the removal of visas for diplomatic and special passport holders will also be signed.

A memorandum of understanding concerning tourism cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and the Libyan General Board of Tourism and Traditional Industries will also be signed. The heads of the two delegations will also sign the minutes of the session.
