USA welcomes Serbia’s commitment to full cooperation with ICTY

President of the National Council for Cooperation with the ICTY and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic today acquainted US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Stephen Rapp with Serbia’s activities and efforts concerning all aspects of cooperation with the Hague tribunal.

The Ministry says in a statement that at today’s meeting, which is part of Rapp’s first visit to Belgrade, Ljajic presented Serbia’s efforts to locate and extradite the two remaining Hague indictees.
He briefed the US Ambassador about Serbia’s initiative to allow all persons sentenced at the ICTY to serve their sentence in their home countries, noting the significance of the initiative.
Rapp praised the Serbian authorities for the additional progress achieved in cooperation with the Hague tribunal, stressing that the USA welcomes Belgrade’s commitment to full cooperation.
He said this is very important if countries in the region are to make peace with each other, as well as for establishing the rule of law.
Rapp stressed that he will convey his impressions about Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague tribunal to his colleagues in the international community, the statement adds.
