Joint project for sustainable tourism signed

Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Sasa Dragin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic, UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia William Infante and Spanish Ambassador to Serbia Ignacio de Palacio Espana signed today a joint programme document “Sustainable Tourism for Rural Development”.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry, Dragin said at the occasion that this project is very important for Serbian farmers who wish to invest in tourism.
He said that the project will improve rural tourism at both the regional and national level.
Dragin said that the Ministry of Agriculture recognizes rural tourism as a part of the rural economy, which will be supported through various rural development programmes with the aim of improving the quality of life in villages.
He said that the project will begin in October this year and will last until April 2012 and that a major part of the funds will be invested in rural tourism and the development of long term rural development.
The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and the Serbian Tourism Organisation are partners in the project. The ministries of environment and education, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Serbian Institute for Nature Conservation will also participate in the project.
The “Sustainable Tourism for Rural Development” project will be financed by the Spain Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund.
