Samardzic-Markovic congratulates Nadja Higl on gold

Belgrade, 3 August 2009

Minister of Youth and Sports Snezana Samardzic-Markovic congratulated swimmer Nadja Higl on winning the gold medal in the women’s 200 metres breaststroke at the FINA Worlds Championships.

We proudly received the news of your winning the gold medal in Rome. Just 20 days ago we successfully organised the Universiade thus defending the honour of our country. Not only did you achieve the highest success ever when it comes to women’s swimming in Serbia, but women’s sports in general. I wish to congratulate you on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and on my own behalf on your success, reads the Minister’s letter.

Nadja Higl set a new European record of 2:21, 62 in the 200 metres breaststroke. Since she competed in an Olympic discipline, she will be rewarded with €30,000.
