Initiative for presenting Milorad Cavic with monetary award to be launched

The Ministry of Youth and Sports today stated that at the next government session Minister Snezana Samardzic-Markovic will suggest that Milorad Cavic be presented with a €30,000 award for winning the gold medal in the 50 metres butterfly at the FINA World Championships in Rome.
According to the decree on granting national recognition and awards for special contributions to the development and affirmation of sports, only athletes who have won Olympic medals can be rewarded with money.
Although the 50 metres butterfly is not an Olympic discipline, Milorad Cavic achieved great success and must be properly rewarded, said Minister Samardzic-Markovic, adding that by winning the gold medal at the FINA World Championships, he represented Serbia in the best possible way.
Sports and sportspeople can be considered as a top Serbian brand and helps promote Serbian cultural identity throughout the world, concluded the Minister.
