At the meeting, held at the JICA’s initiative, JICA representative Kohei Takahashi explained that bilateral cooperation between Japan and Serbia can be realised through volunteer programmes serving as technical support.
The programmes mainly refer to sports, education and culture and envisage two types of volunteers, junior and senior. These types of programmes have already been successfully implemented in Bulgaria and Romania.
Ministry representatives stressed the importance of volunteers in sport and youth projects, which have also been promoted through the National Youth Strategy and the National Sport Development Strategy.
They also voiced their interest in having Japanese volunteer trainers in martial arts come to Serbia, since that would be the proper way to initiate the pilot phase of the programme, after which the two countries could establish cooperation on a number of projects concerning youth policy and sport.
Apart from representatives from the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation and the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport, also present at the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Serbian Sports Association, adds the statement.
