Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Head of the Universiade Belgrade 2009 organising committee Bozidar Djelic opened the new athletic track at the Marakana Red Star Stadium. The track has been completely renovated and a new top quality track surface has been laid.

Djelic stressed at the occasion that the track at the Marakana meets Olympic standards and is of the same quality as the tracks in Athens and Beijing.
He said that Belgrade is the only city in the region to have this kind of athletic track, adding that with the work done at the Military Academy Belgrade could become a centre for athletics.
President of the Serbian Athletic Federation Veselin Jevrosimovic said that the Federation plans to build infrastructure so that Serbian athletes may get good training.
Jevrosimovic said that the track at the Marakana is the fastest in the world and will help Serbian athletes improve their performance.
Technical delegate of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) for athletics Ilka Tapana said that it is a real miracle what the organisers did in the past one hundred days at Marakana.
Djelic, Jevrosimovic and President of the Red Star Athletic Club Dane Korica tested a part of the track, whereas Djelic also put the shot at the stadium.
