Creating favourable climate for developing an information society

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said on Monday evening, opening the fourth Synergy information technology meeting, that the Serbian government recognises the importance of IT development in Serbia, because it has great developmental potentials and good chances for joining modern information societies.

"I am honoured to greet you and wish success upon the work of the largest IT meeting in Serbia. I accepted with great pleasure to open this important event, which is being held in our country for the fourth time. That way, I want to demonstrate that the Serbian government recognises the importance of IT development in Serbia. Our country has great development potentials and good chances for joining modern information societies."
"From talented students who win medals at programming competitions worldwide, to unique software and hardware solutions developed by domestic intelligence and foreign technology, this field of creativity has brought us success and potential benefit which our society has not appreciated.”
"Information technologies are a good test of a society's capability to look ahead. In that test, the most important tasks are: -to develop a software industry, as the cleanest industry in the world; -to recognise the potential of that industry, employ young people and enable them to have a decent life in Serbia; -to protect intellectual property rights and create a favourable climate for development of an information society."
"Serbia is firmly committed to join European integrations and the Serbian government does its level best to speed up that process. The harmonisation of Serbia's legislation with European standards and the strengthening and modernisation of economy are evidence that Serbia is closer every day to the society we wish to create. More and more often, we have the opportunity to host international guests and show them in practice that progress has been made and that Serbia is a country worth investing in. This year's Synergy is another proof that we are a part of world development flows.
That is the reason why the Serbian government accepted with great pleasure to be the patron of the fourth Synergy, firmly convinced that exactly such processes are a way to give the world a part of us and at the same time get from the world the best it has to offer", Kostunica concluded.
The first day of the fourth IT meeting entitled Synergy, which has been organised by the Microsoft company and under the auspices of the Serbian government, is dedicated to programming solutions for work in companies. The other two days are intended for people who deal with exchange and application of computer programs.
The event is being held at the Belgrade's Sava Centre. Some 7, 500 participants are expected to take part in the meeting, including 65 lecturers.
