International community must play more active role in resolving IDP problem in Serbia

Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic talked today with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Political Affairs Committee rapporteur Björn von Sydow about the problems of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) from Kosovo.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Ljajic said at the occasion that the process of return to Kosovo has come to a complete halt because of the unwillingness of the Kosovo Albanians and the interim Kosovo institutions to support it and also due to the international community’s lack of interest in the problem.
The Minister sought more support from the international community for resolving the IDP problem, stressing that closing down temporary accommodation centers and helping people return or integrate into local communities is one of the Serbian government’s priorities.
Björn von Sydow stressed that the purpose of his visit to Serbia is to help secure equal rights and living conditions for all ethnic communities in Kosovo, adding that PACE is very concerned about the problems faced by displaced persons from Kosovo and is willing to help.
