US supports Serbian defence reforms

Serbian Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac today informed US Vice President Joe Biden about Serbia’s defence system reforms and further plans and the country’s stance regarding Euro-Atlantic integration as well as the global fight against terrorism.

According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, at a meeting held at the Guard House, Biden stressed that the US supports the Serbian defence reforms.
Sutanovac and Biden agreed that the Serbian Army, in cooperation with the US and its allies, could play a key role in the stability of the Balkans. The importance of the Serbian Army’s future participation in peacekeeping operations around the world was also discussed at the meeting.
It was concluded that despite differences over certain issues it is important to establish better relations and good military and economic cooperation, primarily through joint education and training projects, programmes for modernizing the military and by improving the excellent existing cooperation between the Serbian Army and the Ohio National Guard.
Sutanovac expressed gratitude to Biden for funds provided by the US administration for the education of Serbian Army personnel. It was stated that both sides are interested in continuing contact at the highest level.
