Kostunica said we must waste no more time in providing the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija institutional guarantees, because that is a pre-condition for survival, safety, and the return of Serbs to the province. The Serbian government is open for talks to find a solution that would provide the necessary institutional guarantees for the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija.
The Prime Minister pointed out that no institutional guarantees have been ensured so far for the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija, adding that the only way to encourage Serbs in the province to take part in the work of institutions and vote in the upcoming parliamentary election is to provide the concrete guarantees outlined in the Serbian government’s Plan for Kosovo-Metohija.
The talks also covered forms of Serbia-Montenegro’s cooperation with the Hague tribunal. Kostunica reiterated the necessity to cooperate with the Hague tribunal and he specified the steps that the Serbian government has taken recently.
Stressing the importance of meeting international obligations, Kostunica pointed out that in meeting these obligations one must seek to preserve stability in the country. Two-way cooperation is a mode of cooperation that would certainly make the meeting of international obligations more efficient, he said.
