Youth policy opens door to Council of Europe

Serbian Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic was on an official visit to Portugal from March 15 to 17, at the invitation of the Executive Director of the North-South Centre Dennis Huber.

One of the goals of the visit was to prepare a memorandum on cooperation between Serbia and Portugal on youth and sport policy.

Serbia joined the European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity, that is, a partial agreement called North-South Centre of the Council of Europe on March 1 this year.

The Minister of Youth and Sport presented the Ministry's activities.

The partial agreement of North-South Centre of the Council of Europe is a framework for European cooperation aimed at raising public awareness of issues such as global interdependence and solidarity, with respect for human rights, democracy and social inclusion.

By joining this agreement, the young have been given an opportunity to participate in various programmes, exchange knowledge with their peers from Europe and the world, as well as take part in the Summer University which every year gathers 300 youth representatives from all over the world.

The young in our country were given an opportunity to host various events, as well as to invite coaches and exploit the resources of the North-South Centre.

Apart from Serbia, members of the partial agreement North-South Centre of the Council of Europe are Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Vatican, Iceland, Ireland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Montenegro.

During her visit to Portugal, the Minister also met with representatives of the Portuguese Ministry of Education and exchanged with them experiences regarding sports in schools. She also met with State Secretary for Youth and Sport Laurentino Dias.
