The statement adds that within a few days the roof of the factory in which the Punto is being produced will also be repaired.
Project leader and representative of the contractor Mace Company Dragan Dukanac said that the deadline for finishing the first stage of the works is one month, adding that after the land is cleared up, the generator block will be fully reconstructed and the production halls overhauled.
He said that around 200,000 cubic metres of rubble will be cleared up in the first stage, as well as that the remaining rubble from the factory grounds will be removed in line with environmental standards.
He noted that 25 trucks will be used for this purpose, adding that the plan is to complete the entire project before mid-2009.
Dukanac stressed that Zastava employees have also been engaged in the clear-up in order to make the project cost-effective, says the statement, recalling that Mace Company was elected at a public tender to clear up the grounds so that Zastava Automobili Srbija, a joint venture of Zastava and Fiat, could begin production.
