Serbia takes over chairmanship over UNEP

The Serbian Ministry of Environmental Protection stated that Serbia today took over a two-year presidency over the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Minister Oliver Dulic has been unanimously elected chair of the Governing Council, consisting of environment ministers of UN member-states.
He announced that the following two years will be marked by attempts to have the world fight with the global financial crisis through environment promotion.
A “Global Green New Deal”, launched by UNEP, will offer mechanisms to fight the global crisis, said Dulic, who will also present UNEP’s activities in the UN General Assembly, according to the statement.
