National Council for Cooperation with ICTY concerned over Seselj trial

The National Council for Cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) expressed concern today over the second interruption in the trial procedure against Vojislav Seselj and commented that this will shake the Serbian public’s already weak faith in the objectivity of the tribunal.
According to the statement by the Council, the trial has been postponed for an indefinite period of time because of improper influence on important witnesses but the details of this decision have not been provided and the most important parts of the decision are confidential and available only to the sides involved.
The Serbian authorities acted in line with tribunal’s requests to provide protection to witnesses and their families and we have no information that any of the witnesses has been in any danger, say to the Council.
The National Council presented the Secretariat of the tribunal these problems and expressed readiness to provide protection to any witness and their families upon the tribunal’s request.
