Serbian, Republika Srpska Energy Ministries to improve cooperation

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Petar Skundric today talked with Republik Srpska Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining Slobodan Puhalac about cooperation between the two countries in terms of energy.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Mining and Energy, the meeting discussed future cooperation regarding hydro-energy projects on the Drina river, as well as the current situation in the oil and gas sectors after the sale of 51 % of the Serbian oil industry NIS.
Ministers Skundric and Puhalac also discussed further construction of the Juzni Tok gas pipeline and its influence on Serbia and Republika Srpska’s gas supply.
The Ministers agreed that the recent gas crisis has shown that cooperation between all sides must be more firm in order to maintain energy stability which is necessary for the economic development of the entire region and it is for this purpose that the two ministries will intensify cooperation.
Skundric and Puhalac, accompanied by directors of the Serbian and Republika Srpska national power companies Vladimir Djordjevic and Branislava Milekic attended the presentation of solutions and feasibility studies for harnessing the hydro energy potential of the Upper Drina and Sutjeska rivers.
The total cost of these investments is estimated at €435 million and annual production of electricity at 800 million kilowatt hours. The study included the hydropower plants Buk Bijela, Foca, Paunci and Sutjeska.
