Dacic told a press conference following the signing that integrated border management is very important for Serbia’s road map towards the EU and visa liberalisation.
He specified that the agreement is another step towards the road map, explaining that the integrated border management system implies the presence of services from the ministries of finance, infrastructure and agriculture at border crossings, along with the police.
Dacic said the system will enable faster flow of capital, goods and people and at the same time prevent all kinds of criminal activities and similar.
He said the Ministry of the Interior is also working on the introduction of a single information system, as well as a single visa system, noting that it will have to cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter.
The Interior Minister recalled that the police took over the control of the state border from the Serbian Army several years ago, adding that Serbia has already been implementing an integrated border management system.
According to him the agreement will enable more efficient implementation of laws being adopted by the Serbian parliament and this kind of border management is of importance for Serbian citizens above all.
Dacic announced the opening of several small border crossings, which will enable Serbian citizens to enter neighbouring countries without visas.
He voiced appreciation to representatives from the European Commission and the Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Hans Ola Urstad, for their help concerning the setting up of the system.
The Minister voiced his expectation that the strategy for fighting organised crime will be prepared within the next two months, noting that this document is also important for the realisation of the road map towards the EU, that is, visa liberalisation.
The Ministry of the Interior will prepare the strategy together with other state organs, so that the government could adopt it over the next two months, said Dacic adding that OSCE experts will also take part in the drafting, which is a guarantee that it will be in line with European standards.
The Minister said that the European Commission’s Expert Mission has positively evaluated accelerated issuance of new passports and recalled that one quarter of Serbian citizens have already took new travel documents.
Dacic reiterated that this is of major importance for Serbia’s visa liberalisation.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Sasa Dragin said that the Ministry is ready to work according the new system.
