Agreement on social dialogue development signed

The Serbian government’s Socio-Economic Council adopted at its 29th regular session today positive remarks about the text of the agreement on further social dialogue development.
According to a statement issued by the Council, the representative of the Serbian government Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic signed the agreement with head of the Serbian employers association Stevan Avramovic, head of the confederation of autonomous trade unions of Serbia Ljubisav Orbovic and President of the trade union confederation Nezavisnost Branislav Canak.
They jointly stated that it is important to further develop social dialogue and collective negotiations at all levels and to respect collective agreements.
In accordance with the agreement, Annex II of the general collective agreement was also signed, according to which the implementation of the articles of the general collective agreement regarding the financial obligations of employers will be postponed for a period of six months.
They stressed that they will continuously analyse the possibility of implementing these articles. One month before the end of the six months period the Council will hold a session to examine the possibility of implementing them.
Following the signing of Annex II, Ljajic also signed a decision to implement the general collective agreement concerning all employers in Serbia and the Serbian employers association has agreed to withdraw its rejection of the general collective agreement.
They said that directly after signing this important agreement negotiations will begin in order to take measures to ensure that already signed agreements concerning employee rights are respected.
The joint aim is to save as many jobs as possible and to increase the employment rate.
It was also decided at the session that the minimum wage for the January to June 2009 period should be RSD 87 per hour.
