Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said that Serbia will make progress in efforts to integrate into the European Union, noting that the EU has approved proposals for economic harmonisation between Serbia and Montenegro and facilitated political and economic requirements for the country to move on in EU accession negotiations.

Addressing an international conference on EU enlargement in Belgrade today, Labus said that Serbia has already launched reforms, accelerated institutional infrastructure development and started training teams for EU accession talks.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that problems in the functioning of the state union, economic harmonisation of its member states, and cooperation with The Hague tribunal are seen as the main reasons for the country’s slow progress towards EU membership.
Labus also recalled that Serbia-Montenegro is the sole country in the region that has not been given the green light for a feasibility study for signing a stabilisation and association agreement with the EU.
The conference, organised by the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies (EACES) and the Faculty of Economics, in cooperation with the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) and the Serbian Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection, has brought together 120 foreign and 20 local experts.
