Action plans for Roma improvement finalised

The Ministry for Human and Minority Rights today stated that the Secretariat for the Roma National Strategy, together with Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic’s cabinet, has concluded the public debate on the draft strategy and action plans for improving the position of the Roma.
The statement adds that before the final version is drafted the Ministry will hold a working meeting on January 15 and 16 to synchronise the goals and measures of the action plans and draft work agendas for 2009, based on the budgets of the relevant ministries and donations.
The country presiding over the Decade of Roma Inclusion is under an obligation to hold three meetings of the International Executive Board.
The Ministry for Human and Minority Rights held the first meeting in September 2008, the second has been scheduled for February 17 and 18 and the third has been planned for June.
Basic topics for the February meeting will be the activities of individual states, as well as joint activities aimed at suppressing discrimination in education, developing a European Roma policy and legalising and improving informal Roma settlements, adds the statement.
