Serbian Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic said today that gas supply will become normal within the next 48 hours and current problems in district heating, particularly affecting Vojvodina, will be resolved soon.
Ljajic visited a care home for older people in Pancevo and talked to the administration and residents about the measures taken after the gas supply was cut off. Gas is used in the centre for heating and cooking.
Director of the centre Milentije Maksimovic told the Minister that an air conditioning unit is now being used for heating in the day room and other areas are being heated by various means.
Ljajic said that he will visit institutions in Vrsac, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Novi Becej and Sremska Kamenica in efforts to find alternative sources of heating.
The Minister pledged that all social benefits will be paid on time this year.
There are 190 residents in the home for older people in Pancevo. Most residents are nearly 70 or 80 years of age and are facing very difficult conditions due to lack of proper heating.
