Cvetkovic pointed out that the Council is very important as the top authority for giving strategic directives and for forming a national consensus on Serbia’s EU integration.
The Council invited the government to do all it can in order to speed up Serbia’s EU integration and visa liberalisation.
Considering the facts that EU membership is Serbia’s long-term strategic goal, as well as recently published EU documents, such as the Enlargement Strategy for 2009 and the EU’s report on Serbia’s progress, the Council recommended that the government choose the best possible moment to apply for EU membership.
The EU Integration Council comprises representatives from the public administration, legislature, ethnic minorities and individuals from various institutions, NGOs and trade unions.
