Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic today announced that the Serbian government will allocate €1.1 million for the solving of ecological problems in Bor, as its local self-government has not succeeded in this respect.
Dulic said that the money will first be used for the replacement of filters at a smelting plant, which is the largest sulphur dioxide polluter.
The Minister pointed out that the level of sulphur dioxide concentration in the air is usually above permitted levels.
Municipality president Predrag Balasevic stressed that Bor has tried to deal with this serious and complex issue since the setting up of RTB Bor and the smelting plant, but it cannot be solved without governmental assistance.
