At a ceremony held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce to present the municipalities and cities of the future awards, Kalanovic presented to Kragujevac a gold cup and a gold plaque to the Mayor of Kragujevac Veroljub Stefanovic his for exceptional long term contribution to the development of local self-government.
She said that this recognition shows that it is possible to change negative trends because from a city without hope Kragujevac has now become a city for the future.
The silver cup trophy for the Municipality of the Future went to Apatin this year. Apatin municipal president Zivorad Smiljanic was also presented with a gold plaque for exceptional long term contributions to the development of local self-government.
Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic presented an award to Smiljanic, stressing in her speech that if municipalities and cities function well it is possible to hope for a stronger country and a better life for the people.
Two bronze cup trophies were presented to Krusevac and Zajecar, as well as seven gold plaques.
Vrsac received the gold plaque for the development of sport, Jagodina for social policy, Lajkovac for cultural and creative activities for children and Nis for a good investment climate.
The municipality of New Belgrade received a gold plaque for modern town planning. The Belgrade municipality of Stari Grad received a gold plaque for municipal administration and Cajetina for tourism development.
The jury distributed awards based on an analysis of the area, population, number of employed people, per capita income, investments in the previous year, plans for future investment and ecological, sports, cultural and tourism activities.
The awards ceremony was also attended by Minister without Portfolio Sulejman Ugljanin, who presented an award to Krusevac municipal president Dragan Azdejkovic.
