At the opening of the Security and Society meeting, Sutanovac recalled that Serbia is currently participating in three UN peacekeeping operations in Africa.
As for the agreement between Serbia and NATO regarding information security, Sutanovac voiced hope that Serbia will open its office at the NATO headquarters in Brussels by June, 2009.
The Minister stressed that Serbia’s participation in the NATO Partnership for Peace Programme is a good basis for its cooperation with NATO, pointing out that all neighbouring countries will soon join NATO.
Sutanovac specified that Serbia has partnership relations with 44 states, including NATO and non-NATO members, such as Russia and China.
The Minister recalled that the European Commission commended Serbia’s setting up of democratic and civil controls over its army.
The Security and Society forum, devoted to Serbian foreign policy, is being held at the Belgrade City Assembly and is organised by the George Marshall Association of Graduates and the European Commission.
Representatives of the Defence Ministry, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Serbian government, various diplomatic corps and NGOs are taking part in the forum.
The forum comprises three panel discussions, Euro-Atlantic, regional and national. Representatives of the European Centre for Security Studies from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany are also participating.
