The Paralympics Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, also granted awards to the best athletes with disabilities for 2008.
They are table tennis player Borislava Peric-Rankovic and discus thrower Drazenko Mitrovic, who both won silver in Beijing this year.
Samardzic-Markovic said that, according to the national strategy for sport development, the status of Paralympics athletes should be the same as of other sportsmen, adding that it is the obligation of the state to help them.
Ljajic commended all the institutions and organisations which enabled Serbian athletes to participate in the Beijing Paralympics Games and wished them health, happiness and success in 2009.
Ciplic pointed out that the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights would like to make all Serbian citizens familiar with the achievements of these people, who have strong personalities and characters, saying that is the best possible evidence that boundaries do not exist.
President of the Serbian Paralympics Committee Zoran Micovic appreciated the government’s help and recalled that 14 Serbian athletes took part in the Paralympics Games, held from September 6 to 17 in Beijing, achieving considerable results, including two silver medals, in the competition between 3,500 participants from 146 countries.
