Speaking at the first session of the working group for regional coopertion of the National Convention on the EU, held at the Parliament, Delevic said that she is convinced that cooperation between Western Balkans countries will be more intensive once the countries become members of the EU.
She said that events since 2000 have led to the realisation that regional cooperation is a natural response to challenges, not a condition set by the EU and this is most apparent in economic matters.
She pointed to good cooperation amongst regional countries in terms of the judiciary and interior affairs, adding that intensive political contacts resulted in the creation of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, which later turned into the Regional Cooperation Council.
Delevic stressed that by encouraging cooperation, countries in the region have developed satisfactory mutual relations, such as they want to establish with EU countries.
The National Convention on the European Union is a platform for a professional and narrowly focused debate at a national level, between representatives of state administration, NGOs, academic institutions, experts and the broader public.
The project is financed by the EU through the EU Integration Fund, led by the European Commission delegation in Serbia.
