In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Spasojevic, who is
heading the Defence Ministry’s delegation in Slovakia, pointed out that Slovakia also supports the preservation of Serbian sovereignty and territorial integrity by legal, diplomatic and political means.
He said Slovakia considers Serbia a reliable partner and a force for stability in the Western Balkans and opposes Serbia’s path to EU membership being conditional on the situation in Kosovo.
The two sides agreed to double their bilateral cooperation in 2009.
According to him Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac will visit Bratislava early next year to discuss military and economic cooperation.
Spasojevic said that Serbia and Slovakia have already cooperated regarding military education and defence system reforms, adding that the two sides also agreed on cooperation between their specialised agencies.
Spasojevic concluded his two-day visit to Slovakia during which he met with officials from the Slovak ministries of defence and foreign affairs and the Slovak parliament.
Spasojevic and Slovak State Secretary of Defence Daniel Duchoň agreed that the bilateral military cooperation has so far been extremely satisfactory and discussed possibilities for further improvements.
Spasojevic also met with State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Diana Strofová and discussed the current political and security situation in the region and Serbia’s EU integration process.
At the meeting with director of the Slovak National Data Protection Agency Frantisek Blanarik they talked about Slovakia’s experience implementing the NATO agreement on security of information, which Serbia has also recently signed.
Spasojevic also met with members of the Slovak Parliament’s Committee on Defence and Safety led by Committee chair Rudolf Puchik.
The State Secretary also visited the Serbian military cemetery, where he laid wreaths and paid his respects to Serbian officers and soldiers who died in imprisonment during World War One.
