Present at the exercises were chief of the Serbian Border Police Administration Nenad Banovic, chief of the Croatian Border Police Administration Nikola Milina, representatives from the British embassies in Belgrade and Zagreb and representatives from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Serbia and Croatia.
The exercises mark the conclusion of the project to build technical capacity and improve cross-border cooperation between the two countries, realised with the help of the IOM and the British embassies in Belgrade and Zagreb.
Before the exercises were performed Banovic told the press that the project had lasted around two years and was aided by a series of equipment donations which have helped to improve the technical capacity of the border police.
He said that the border police are supplied with special detectors and cameras, which can help discover illegal border crossings, even during the night.
The Serbian and Croatian border police exhibited good communication and joint activities regarding the prevention of human trafficking.
The first exercise was the simulation of a border crossing of three illegal immigrants and the second featured an attempt to cross the border in a stolen vehicle.
