Judges’ association invited to help draft criteria for appointment of judges

The Ministry of Justice has invited the Serbian Association of Judges to take part in composing the criteria for the election and promotion of judges, in order to ensure an independent and non-partisan selection.
The statement adds that the Ministry will send the proposed criteria to the Venetian Commission, since it is the only institution competent to assess such issues.
The Ministry wants to present the criteria to the High Judicial Council since, according to the new draft law, the Council will be the only body authorised to set such criteria.
The High Judicial Council is primarily comprised of members of the Serbian Association of Judges, and will remain so in the future, adds the statement.
