Serbia, Russia sign protocol

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Russian Minister for Emergency Situation Sergei Shoigu signed today in Moscow a protocol concerning economic, scientific and technological cooperation.

Speaking to the press Dacic said that the sale of the Serbian oil industry NIS is a matter of great importance for the country, as well as the construction of a gas pipeline through Serbian territory and the modernization and expansion of the gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor and according to the protocol all three parts of the energy agreement will be implemented.
He said that this was confirmed to the Serbian delegation by the Russians and announced that Gazprom will take on the obligation to implement all three parts of the agreement, so that it is expected that the energy agreement will be signed.
He stressed that according to the protocol Russia will remove visa restrictions for Serbian citizens and expand the list of goods covered by the free trade agreement.
Shoigu said that documents pertaining to the sale of 51% of the capital of NIS to Gazprom will be prepared and signed by December 20.
He said that the protocol on cooperation between the two countries includes specific dates for the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline through Serbia and the modernization of the gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor.

Summarising the results of the Serbian-Russian mixed committee meeting, Shoigu announced that the trade between the two countries will amount to 60% this year.
Dacic stressed that their goal is to double the trade in the next five years, noting that Russia is Serbia’s largest foreign trade partner.
According to him, they agreed to expand the free trade agreement, therefore in the period January–March 2009 Serbia will expand the list of products not subject to customs tax in the trade with Russia.
These will include medicines, carpets, office material and equipment, specified Dacic adding that cars will most likely be added to the list soon.
