Speaking at the session, held at the Serbian government, Dulic said that Serbia is one of the most energy inefficient countries in Europe and stressed that Serbia cannot join the EU without implementing the Kyoto Protocol.
He said that the agreement will ensure that Serbia receives a flow of foreign investments for clean and energy efficient technologies.
He said that Serbia spends 4 to 6 times more energy than the European average and the aim of the national CDM authority is to reduce consumption and secure a stable energy supply by using renewable energy sources while conserving the environment.
He explained that the formation of the national CDM authority has established the required institutional and legal framework for carrying out CDM projects, adding that nearly 40 project proposals were submitted at a recently announced competition.
Dulic said that similar competitions will be held in the future, adding that the national CDM authority could attract investments worth nearly €225 million during the next few years.
He said that a website of the national CDM authority will begin to function by the end of the year, meanwhile all related information can be found at the Environment Ministry’s website.
The session of the national CDM authority was presided over by Minister Dulic and was also attended by representatives of the ministries of infrastructure, agriculture, and energy.
