European CISM conference opens

Serbian Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac opened today the European conference of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

Representatives of 36 countries are participating at the two-day event, which is taking place in Belgrade for the first time.
Sutanovac said that Serbia has been a member of CISM for five years and has taken part in over 50 sporting events organised by CISM.
Serbian Army Chief of General Staff Zdravko Ponos wished the participants a lot of success, noting that the same values apply to both sport and the army, i.e. one needs to win by respecting the enemy and the rules.
Serbian military athletes have won one gold and two bronze medals so far , as well as numerous recognitions at CISM events.
Apart from the ongoing conference, Belgrade will also organise a CISM marathon in 2009. The head of the Serbian delegation at CISM is General Vidosav Kovacevic.
