Head of the European Commission Delegation to Serbia Josep Lloveras and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Serbia Rini Reza were also present at the signing.
At a press conference following the signing Ljajic explained that the funds are intended for projects providing assistance to elderly and disabled persons in their homes, as well as for setting up day care centres for the young.
He said the competition was carried out through the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy’s Social Innovation Fund which has so far earmarked around €6 million for assistance to local social care services.
Ljajic specified that one half of the amount was provided from the Ministry’s budget and the other from donations, recalling that the Fund has so far financed 232 projects in 81 municipalities.
Lloveras said that the EU has set aside €5.5 million from its pre-accession funds for various projects and pointed out that the international community has an obligation to help the most vulnerable groups of people in countries in transition.
According to him, the EU integration process aims at helping ordinary people.
Funds for the development of local social care services have been allocated to Surdulica, Novi Pazar, Senta, Kovin, Mali Idjos, Backa Topola, Titel, Odzaci, Prokuplje, Negotin, Apatin and Cuprija.
