Sreckovic said at the opening that that this is the largest and most important conference on the Diaspora ever held in Serbia, themed migrations and the Diaspora, adding that experts from eight countries will take part.
Namely, experts from India, Ireland, Israel, Armenia, Switzerland, France, Slovenia and Croatia are taking part in the conference, he said.
The Minister recalled that the Serbian Diaspora has huge potential to contribute to Serbia’s development and that last year alone it sent $4.9 billion to Serbia, equivalent to half of Serbia’s annual exports.
He announced that a draft law on the Diaspora will be made public in two weeks.
Present at the conference will be prominent specialists for migration Gloria Moreno-Fontes Chammartin from Switzerland, Irena Sumi from Slovenia and Professor Mirjana Morokvasic-Miller from France.
The conference aims at defining a strategy for strengthening the ties between Serbia and the Diaspora, which includes a more efficient institutional infrastructure, according to the statement.
