Sreckovic said that this is the largest and most important conference on the Diaspora ever held in Serbia, adding that experts from eight countries with large and influential Diasporas will take part.
He voiced hope that their experiences will help define Serbia’s policy toward their Diaspora.
I expect concrete conclusions which will benefit Serbia and its Diaspora, said the Minister, adding that Serbia is entering a politically much more peaceful and economically more stable period in which it will be able to further its good relations with its neighbours, as well as all other states on a global level.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Belgrade Rini Reza stressed that the role of the Diaspora is very important because with its knowledge and experiences it can help Serbia move forward.
Representatives from Israel, Armenia, India, France, Switzerland, Ireland, Slovenia and Croatia attended the opening of the conference, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Serbian Ministry for the Diaspora.
The conference aims to define a platform to enable an exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as different viewpoints of the role of the Diaspora in Serbia’s future development.
