Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic today attended the delivery of a Japanese donation to the adult care centre Male Pcelice, in Kragujevac.
Thanks to the donation, the largest adult care centre in Serbia received an ambulance and several pieces of medical equipment.
Ljajic thanked the Japanese government for all it has done so far and announced the joint construction of a gerontology centre in Valjevo.
This is a good example of cooperation between the international community and central and local authorities in Serbia, said the Minister, adding that his Ministry financed the reconstruction of one wing in the Kragujevac centre this year at a cost of RSD 35 million.
He recalled that the ultimate goal is to develop alternative forms of social care and enable better accommodation for beneficiaries of such institutions, including more frequent contact with family members.
Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Tadashi Nagai delivered the donation and said that his government is trying to help institutions containing socially-incompatible people and voiced hope that the donated equipment will improve the life of the centre’s beneficiaries.
Nagai recalled that since 2000 the Japanese government has donated around €200 million to social care institutions in Serbia.
