Malovic said that the new network of judicial organs will be established before January 1, 2010.
She said that the current 120 municipal courts will be reorganised into 34 basic courts, while the jurisdictions of five municipal courts in Belgrade will be taken over by the First Basic Court in Belgrade.
The Second Basic Court in Belgrade will be in charge of the current municipal courts of Lazarevac, Mladenovac, Obrenovac and Sopot, she said.
The Minister added that the number of court assistants will be increased to help improve court efficiency.
According to the draft law, there will be 44 magistrate courts in Serbia, said Malovic, and stressing that there are currently 781 magistrates in Serbia, but that number will have to be reduced.
She announced that 26 higher courts, 16 economic courts and four courts of appeal will be formed in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac.
The new network of judicial organs envisages the formation of the Supreme Court of Cassation (Appeals Court) and special jurisdiction courts, namely commercial, economic and misdemeanour courts and a higher misdemeanour court.
