Founding stone laid for new chair lift on Mt Kopaonik

Minister for the National Investment Plan Verica Kalanovic, today laid the founding stone on Mt Kopaonik, thus marking the beginning of the construction of a new high speed chair lift.
The Ministry says in a statement that also present were State Secretary for Tourism Goran Petkovic and acting director of the public ski company Skijalista Srbije, Nebojsa Skoric.
Kalanovic said that this is the beginning of planned investment in Mt Kopaonik which will turn the mountain into a tourist centre with standards equal to those of modern European centres.
Development of tourist infrastructure will help increase the inflow of funds from tourism and development of the Brus and Raska municipalities.
Petkovic stressed that investment in the state-of-the-art chair-lift marks the beginning of planned investment in this mountain.
According to him, when results of the master plan for Kopaonik are announced early next year, it will be known how the piste and hotels will further be developed.
Petkovic noted that the chair-lift project will open doors to new investors in the mountain.
Skoric emphasised that Skijalista Srbije is ready for the upcoming winter season, adding that additional works in the resort are coming to a close and that pistes will fulfil European standards.
The new chair-lift, produced by Doppelmayr, will transport 2,400 skiers an hour at the speed of five metres per second. The total length of the chair-lift will be 840 metres.
The investment is worth around RSD 253 million and is financed from the National Investment Plan, concludes the statement.
