Milosavljevic said that according to the plan of Zastava’s strategic partner Fiat, around 200,000 Fiat’s middle and lower category vehicles will be produced in 2011.
The plan envisages that around 90% of the production will be export-oriented, which should bring in at least €1 billion in 2011, said the Minister adding that this will reflect positively on Serbia’s foreign trade balance.
He reiterated that the 10% cut on customs tax on car imports, which will be enforced as of January 1, 2009, is the result of an agreement with Fiat and added that car import will not affect production at the Kragujevac plant, because 90% of vehicles will be exported.
This year is a special one because of the contract with Fiat which will bring Serbia back onto the global scene, said Milosavljevic and added he believes the contract will increase export as well as attract foreign investors.
According to him, the unilateral implementation of the trade agreement with the EU will not change anything for the Serbian car industry because customs tax on import of cars from the EU will be only 10%.
Many producers are now interested in the Serbian market because they want to take advantage of the free trade agreement with Russia and CEFTA countries, said the Minister.
Around 150 exhibitors from Serbia and abroad will take part in the international car show, taking place until October 26.
During the fair around 30 models will be exhibited, some of them being showcased for the first time in the south east European market.
