BIA Director Sasa Vukadinovic said at the occasion that besides playing its role in security matters the Agency is now also responsible for contributing to Serbia’s EU integration process.
The Agency is making every effort to accomplish this and results are visible, he said, adding that he hopes that all future tasks in this respect will be completed successfully.
Speaking about international cooperation BIA Director said that the Agency has established good contacts with security agencies abroad and is thus improving Serbia’s international position.
He said that BIA is a member of two international associations, and negotiations are underway concerning cooperation with security services in the region, in order to make joint efforts to meet the security challenges posed by modern times.
He said that the Agency’s future priorities will be staff training and to ensure that the Agency functions completely in keeping with legal regulations and national interests.
The ceremony was attended by Serbian government ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the church and media, as well as Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic and former BIA director Rade Bulatovic.
The ceremony was held in memory of October 17, 1899, when the royal Serbian government passed a law whereby a sector for confidential police affairs was established as part of the central public administration.
